Day 8: Florence & David
With our tour slowly coming to an end, we got wrapped up in Florence and an its art. At long last, we're here in a city where the Renaissance thrived and brought about a new and changed world.
A Trip Into Florence
Florence is definitely a city full of art and history. Our hotel, Torre Guelfa, was originally a castle from 10th century. Everywhere, we were reminded of the Renaissance. In addition, there were plenty of fashion houses and restaurants to eat. Florence is a town known for meat, especially Florentine steak. And don't worry, there was plenty of good food for Cithara to eat (and delicious gelato to top it off)!

Michelangelo's David
Michelangelo was well known during the Renaissance for his art, particularly his sculptures. Probably the most famous of them was his David. Thanks to our local guides, we learned a lot about the art within the city. When we saw it in person at the Academia, we weren't prepared for how huge it was. Even from different angles, it loomed over us. Truly a work of art worth seeing in person. There were also plenty of unfinished statues that lead up to David. These were the works Michelangelo started but never got around to finishing. It's quite incredible to see these statues trying to get out of the stone they're made of.

Tip: Much like with anywhere else, it's best to book tickets for this and the Uffizi gallery ahead of time.
